Assistant Directing
While I have done directing myself on my smaller scale self produced short films and music videos, I know I still have a lot to learn. Part of my path to becoming a better director is to sharpen my skills while assisting and shadowing other directors. I’ve had brief experience as an assistant director and would jump at the chance to do some more of it. I’m always ready to learn and would love to collaborate with some directors.
Looking Glass
In my sophomore year of college I had the pleasure of writing an episode of one of our stations biggest television hits ‘Looking Glass’, not only that but I was given the opportunity to be assistant director on the project. This was the biggest contribution I had done to any project outside of my own self produced work at the time, and it was an absolute thrill to step into the position and work alongside my good friend and episode director Brandon Brown for the second episode of the second season of Looking Glass. Our team went through a series of challenges to get the episode to air, and it was all worth it. It showed me how much I still had to learn about directing and reminded me how much I wanted to continue this path for myself. The season went on to win prestigous accolades such as the Lone Star Emmy, one of the highest awards obtainable to a television series at a college level.
The experience was something I’ll cherish forever, and it left me wanting more gigs as an assistant director.
